Mixed Media Art Journal Page Inspiration with Mike Deakin

Hi Everyone,

It's my turn to share some inspiration with you today and I thought I'd create a whimsical mixed media art journal page using the new Collectors Edition No15 Stamp "Dorking Hen" and a few other fab IndigoBlu products (listed below)

When I saw the Dorking Hen I immediately thought of at least 6 ways to use the stamp, but all tongue in cheek!

Soul Mate

Hello and a Happy New Year from Elizabeth. My first project for the year is using one of Kay's new Collectors Edition stamps, the Seahorse, which she designed especially for me.

Now sadly I managed to loose several photograph's as I swapped over onto my new laptop, so I do apologise.

Firstly I die cut a tag and covered it in the map paper and gave it a coat of White GeeSsoGood  before adding Glass Bead Gel and Mica Flakes, for texture.

I added a few large glass beads for more dimension. I had a scrap piece of inked card left over from making Christmas cards, which was just the right size and colour for stamping two of the Seahorses onto. After cutting them out I adhered them to the tag, so they were entwined.

I diluted some Verdigris and also Crushed Velvet Luscious and added the two colours all around the Glass Bead Gel, blending the edges so not to have any lines.

Finally I added sequins, some words from the Chit Chat Seasonal book with a frame drawn around, and a few black dots to tie the colours together.

Art Journal Page - Lest We Forget

Hi Everyone it's Mike here - My IndigoBlu design team project falls on Armistice Day (11th November) and the Remembrance Day weekend so it's only fitting that I create an art journal page in remembrance of all those who died or were injured in wars in the service of their country.

Tutorial: Linen Hanging Heart

Hello Giovanna today with the last post for this month full of love!
A while ago a friend of mine gave me a roll of heavy cotton, that looks like a lot like linen, so I used it to make a hanging heart, using stamps, paper and the brilliant shades of the Cottage paints: Spring is in the air..... Follow me in this step by step, it is super easy to make!

Trace and cut out the heart shape from the fabric

Paint just the in the middle with gesso

Paint some strips using the Cottage paints, blending them together. Give a second coat until you are happy with the result, let it dry

Put a small amount of acrylic paint on the desktop and using a brayer roll the paint on the background stamps. Stamp randomly.

Cut out some elements from the paper pad and glue them to the heart, along with the stamped sentiment.

Glue the heart to a piece of heavy cardstock and cut it out.

Lost in Thought

Hello and welcome, Kay M here today to share my project with this month's theme of using one of my favourite IndigoBlu stamps.  I managed to narrow my choice down to a 'smallish' list, but am unable to have one overall favourite, so this canvas uses today's favourite, Lost in Thought,  with runner up sets, Limor Circles and Plume!

I re purposed a 20cm² canvas board. It had Croma Crackle applied to it for a another project but as I didn't like how it turned out, I decided to make it the base for this project.  Extra texture was added with fine paste through the Weird Science stencil and the whole board was painted with black Gee-Sso-Good.  When dry,  Luscious powders were brushed all over, and lightly sprayed with water to set.  Silver Luscious powder was mixed with water and applied to the raised areas and edges with my finger, a bottle top was used as a stamp with the silver mixture, and  White Gee-Sso-Good was splattered to finish the background.       

The focus of the canvas was made with wooden stirrers, both wide and narrow.   They were glued together to make boards with wood glue and taped behind with tape. 

When dry these wooden panels painted with White Gee-Sso-Good   and again left to dry. Then the images were stamped with black Archival ink, and coloured with Distress inks.   

I cut two of the narrow boards in half, and edged all of them with black pen.   Then a length of thin string was coloured with Luscious powders and wrapped round in places.  

Once all the elements had been arranged and I was happy with the composition, they were attached using silicon glue.

Twinchie Canvas

It is Cec here and I have some autumn inspiration for you.

I thought this time I would make a canvas in fall colours to share with you.

I started with a 6" square canvas and gave it a coat of white Gesso.  Then I added some texture through the IndigoBlu Mixed Media Stencil.

Once it was dry I covered it with Lemon Meringue Matte paint and then added Burning Bonfire and Postbox Red that were thinned with water, wiping each layer back with a baby wipe in random areas.  After I took this photo I decided to knock back the colour a bit by dry brushing another light coat of Gesso on the canvas.

I cut eight 2" x 2" pieces of chipboard and glued them in pairs with Super Thick Slap it On to make four twinchies.  I used double sided tape to cover them with old book paper.

The twinchies were coated with white Gesso, painted with Lemon Meringue Matte paint and then dry brushed with a little more Gesso.  Take note of the text because it is soon going to disappear.

Next I used a variety of Distress Spray Stains, some Miss Moneypenny Metallic paint and some Gold Luscious to add some interest to the canvas and the twinchies.  I sprayed, splattered and dropped blobs of colour on.  I find it fascinating how differently the substrates react to exactly the same additions.

I used Jet Black Archival Ink to stamp the butterflies and small flowers from the IndigoBlu Live, Laugh, Love stamp set.  In the end I stamped 4 of each and then fussy cut them.

I painted both sides of the butterflies with Carved Pumpkin Distress Ink and the flowers with Candied Apple Distress Ink.   Next I painted the front of two butterflies with Miss Moneypenny Metallic paint and the front of two flowers with Ruby Slippers Metallic paint.  I cut between sections of the flowers and shaped them a bit before I layered them in pairs with the painted flowers on top and added some black pearls for centres.  I layered the butterflies in the same manner and added pearls to their bodies.

The twinchies were adhered to the canvas using Super Thick Slap it On and the embellishments added to the twinchies.

I hope you are inspired to play with twinchies.  I am now on a mission to try something with inchies.

An Autumn Canvas

Hello,   Welcome to the IndigoBlu Blog,  Kay M today and I would like to share an Autumnal canvas.  I've combined lots of textures with the Indigoblu English Cottage Artist'sAcrylic Paint colours of the season.
 

I began by covering an A4 sized canvas with skeletal leaves using Slap-it-On Matt and added dimensional paste butterflies through the Floral Fantasy stencil.  Cocktail and bamboo sticks were dipped into fine and coarse pastes and then glued in place.  Die cut leaves were crushed then scattered and adhered were they landed, the canvas was left the dry.   The entire canvas was then painted with Gee-Sso-Good white, a wash of BurningBonfire and two further washes of  Gee-Sso-Good white dabbed with Goldfinger, ensuring each layer was dried before adding the next.
    

Five chipboard leaves were covered with coarse paste and left to dry.  Ruby Slippers, Burning Bonfire and Emerald City mixed with PheasantBronze  then  painted onto all the leaves.  Gold Luscious mixed with water was applied to highlight the paste butterflies. 
   

Images and the sentiment from Nature II were stamped, painted and shaped where necessary.    The tree stump and ferns, stamped onto tissue paper and applied with Slap It On Matte, all the other elements secured with silicon glue as shown.  

To finish a little brown Distress Ink was sponged around the canvas edge.

Christmas Tag

Hello, Solange Marques here and yoday I'll share with you more a Christmas project using the fabulous IndigoBlu products!
I've made a Christmas tag:

First, I applied FlitterGlu on IndigoBlu Madonna and Child rubber stamp and I added Megaflake Chariot of Fire:

On the chipboards I applied FlitterGlu , Megaflake Chariot of Fire and a little of GeeSso Good! Gesso-Black on the edges:

On the tag I've used IndigoBlu Script Background Rubber Stamp with clear embossing powder. I also applied GeeSso Good! Gesso-white and gold ,metallic paste:
