Googly Spooky-Tastic Halloween Cards

Hi Everyone,

Mike here with a cute Halloween card series using two of the new release Halloween stamps from the release on the 21st September on Hochanda.

I batch made 8 of these googly eyed giggle cards using the new Skull & Cracked Glass stamps.

The cards are A6 in size, a perfect fit for these new stamps. I created 8 black A6 card bases and cut 8 pieces of Perfect White Stamping Card at a slightly smaller size to allow for a black border all the way around.

Using my stamp press and some Jet Black Archival ink I stamped out 8 of the skulls, one on each piece of the white stamping card.

Next, I stamped out a 9th on printer paper and cut out with scissors to act as a mask.

Laying the mask over each skull I used a combination of light green, orange and purple inks to blend colours around the outside of the card making sure the mask stayed in position.

I repeated the same process for all 8 of skull card fronts.

Once all 8 had the colour around the edges I took the Cracked Glass stamp, once again masking off the skull, and stamped in two opposite corners using the Jet Black Archival ink.

I  repeated the process on all 8 of the card fronts.

Next taking a spooky bat pattern stencil I added the same black ink through the stencil in the two remaining empty corners.

Once I had repeated this process on the remaining card fronts, I glued them to the fronts of the black card bases.

Next, I printed out an insert for the cards using my computer, then cut to fit the inside of the card base. I then glued the insert into the inside of each card.

For a final touch, using some glue, I stuck googly eyes onto each of the skulls eye sockets!

Adding the googly eyes turns the skull image from being a bit scary into a fun Halloween giggle!

I then teamed up each card with a C6 black envelope ready to post out to friends around the world.

I hope you like this simple one layer inked and stamped Halloween card, it's so easy and fun to create and you can make quite a few in a very short amount of time!

Bumble Bee Themed Flip Top Note Pad with Mike Deakin

Hi Guys,

It's Mike here with my DT project for June. As the sun has been shining and I see many honey and bumble bees in my garden buzzing around the lilac and hydrangeas I thought I'd capture the essence of early summer by creating a small A6 sized flip top notepad using the Collector's Edition No9 Bumblebee stamp.

As I normally do - I captured the whole creation process of making the journal on video for you to watch and if you're feeling summery, have a go at making one for yourself!

Oriental Style All Occasion Card with Mike Deakin

Mixed Media Art Journal Page Inspiration with Mike Deakin

Hi Everyone,

When I saw the Dorking Hen I immediately thought of at least 6 ways to use the stamp, but all tongue in cheek!

Peony Flower Mother's Day Card

Quick Card Share from Mike Deakin

Hi Everyone - Mike here with a couple of quick A6 card shares for you today using two of the fantastic new release stamp sets.

The first is the "Drive Fast" stamp set teamed up with the older but very versatile "Script" stamp set with some cogs and gears for decoration borrowed from the "Fly High" stamp set also featured in the card below. The backgrounds were created using "Vodka Martini" & "Kingfisher Blue" acrylic metallic paints applied by hand with a piece of "Phat Foam".

All images were stamped using Jet Black Archival Ink. The "Script" stamp was stamped in the background using "Sepia" Archival Ink.

They're very quick and simple one layer cards but with the metallic paints in the background, it gives them some real depth with that lovely metallic lustre shining from the back!

New Stamp Release Sneaky Peek with Mike Deakin

Hi everyone Mike here again,

It's a privilege for my February Design Team inspiration to bring you a sneaky peek of three new stamp sets coming soon from IndigoBlu.

The 7" x7" card below was created using three existing neutral paints and three fantastic brand new stamp sets!

The three paint colours I used were:

Warm Tan, Hot Cocoa, & Porcelain.

I started off with my background and some small pieces of Phat Foam, loading up the paint into the foam with my spatula.

I then added the paint to my background cardstock with the foam to get the mottled effect - it almost looks like clouds (if you squint a bit that is!!).

Next using the Blueprint stamp from the brand new Draughtsman Stamp Set - I inked up the stamp, using Hot Cocoa paint instead of ink and then stamped all over the mottled sky.

I love the effect it gives! Next, I took a small piece of cardstock approx 2/12 inches by 2/12 inches and did the same thing with the background except I didn't use the Blueprint stamp. Instead, I used the new Victorian Gentleman stamp from the same set and some Coffee Archival Ink and stamped the image onto the small piece of cardstock. 

Doesn't he look just like a photograph! It's magic!!

I then matted this onto a piece of the same cardstock as my 7x7 base card. 

I then did the same thing with one of the Aeroplane stamps from the new "Fly High" stamp set.

Next, I did the same thing with one of the tags from my Junk & Disorderly art journal to create the same effect on the background. The Phat Foam was still juicy and hadn't yet dried up!

Finishing off with one of the typography stamp sets from the brand new "Traveling Home" stamp set with the same Coffee Archival Ink.

To finish off ,I glued the background onto my card base, then glued the Victorian gentleman and aeroplane piece onto the background...

...then mounted the tag with some double-sided foam tape for a bit of dimension - after adding a piece of coffee coloured seam binding to the tag! - Job Done!
