Altered Composition Book Butterfly Collage using IndigoBlu Flutterby and Crackleglaze

Welcome IndigoBlu fans! We have some fantastic news for all those fans of rubber stamping in the US who love IndigoBlu stamps (or are maybe new to them?)

Topflight Stamps, LLC is a new Art Stamp Online Store. They are a US based company that carries Rubber and Clear Stamps from different countries around the world. Check them out for unique international stamps, including IndigoBlu. All US orders over $50 ship free.

We thought we'd share some inspiration, first seen back in April 2017, from US based designer and International Design Team Member Autumn Clark. She cleverly combined the Dinkie Flutterby and CrackleGlaze Background stamps to alter the cover of a composition book.

Autumn with you today to share some very fun techniques. My jaw dropped to the floor when I saw THIS post by our Jenny Marples. Right away I ordered the Crackleglaze Background stamp.

I first tried to make a floral design like Jenny. I inked the background and colored the poppy from the Poppycock stamp set with Distress Inks. Next I layered on Super Thick Slap it On with a palette knife. I pressed the crackle stamp into the paste and quickly washed my stamp and let the panel dry. I went over with Distress Crayons blending with a baby wipe. I thought I would add some chunky embossing to the edges to mimic solder. Hmm, at this point I felt the entire project had grown rather dismal... So I cut a square out of the middle and decided to salvage the piece as a frame.

I inked some book page and card with Distress Oxide ink. I cut the circle dies from the inky card. I smooshed some card into Postbox Red paint and then dipped it into Distress Oxide, letting the ink flow down. I stamped the Flutterby stamp onto that panel then used the excess to cut a postage die. I used all of these elements to build my composition.

Here's a closeup shot of that lovely crackle effect.

I layered the butterfly over a purchased paper flower and bundled string.

All of the layers were raised with chipboard.

I added some staples for interest.

I curled the butterfly wings for even more dimension.

I glued a vintage button to a brad to adhere a second paper flower and layered over a die cut flower.

Here it is ready for my journaling and doodles. I hope you have fun experimenting with these techniques.

And here's some more inspiration from Autumn using the Dinkie Flutterby stamp;

Thank you for joining us here at the IndigoBlu blog to see Autumn's gorgeous projects - we are sure you'll now have some ideas of your own for using the Dinkie Flutterby and CrackleGlaze Background stamps, both of which are now available in the US from Topflight Stamps.

Let Your Dreams Fly card with Emmy

Hello IndigoBlu fans!

Emmy here sharing my first project for May. This month is about wings and flying high at IndigoBlu blog and I've prepared a butterfly card to share with you.
To create my background I used the Rain Droplets Red Rubber Stamp with white embossing powder. Then I coloured the white cardstock using Luscious Pigment Powder - Blue mixed with Slap It On - Super Thick.

Then I stamped the butterflies from the Floral Fantasy Red Rubber Stamp using silver embossing powder and coloured them with Tim Holtz Ink Pads.

For my sentiment I used a quote from the Grand Tour III Red Rubber Stamp.

I hope you enjoyed today's post!

Have a wonderful creative weekend!

My Heart Soars

It is Cec here and I have another inspiration piece for you.  Count Your Blessings is the theme this month for the International Design Team and when I think of my blessings my heart gives a little flip so I decided to make a little canvas to portray how this affects me.

I started with an 8" x 8" canvas and gave it a coat of White Gee-Sso Good Gesso.  Next I put some Super Thick Slap it On through a Script stencil.  Once it was dry I gave it another coat of gesso because I didn't want it to be shiny.

I coated a piece of fine corrugated cardboard with Black Gee-Sso Good Gesso and when it was dry gave it a coat of Matte Slap it On.

Next I cut a piece from a Tyvek envelope and painted it with Raven Black Metallic paint.  When it was dry I stamped it with the English Flourish (Dinkie) and the dots from the Tasty Textures stamp set using Jet Black Archival Ink.  Then I heated it between two pieces of parchment paper with the painted side down and being sure to just hover my dry iron over it and not touch it.  It takes a bit of patience but you get the coolest bubbles and holes that you can see in the photo of the finished project.

Next I coated a wooden heart that my husband made for me with some Golden Course Pumice Gel and when it was dry I painted it with Ruby Slippers Metallic paint.

I stamped the Flutterby (Dinkie) on some white card stock with Black Gee-Sso Good Gesso and then cut it in half and removed the head and bottom of the body.  The next step was to paint it with Ruby Slippers and Vodka Martini Metallic paints and then attach it to the back of the heart.

I altered the colour of a filigree piece with some Pitch Black and Silver Mixative Alcohol Inks blended together.  This was then attached to the heart.

To finish the canvas I used a dry brush to paint Raven Black Metallic paint and then some White Gee-Sso Good Gesso outwards from the centre.  I added the corrugated cardboard next, followed by the Tyvek panel.

The heart was mounted on a little bit of cheesecloth, On top of the cardboard I added a little strip of faux metal from my stash that was painted with Black Gee-Sso Good Gesso and heat dried to create bubbles.  Finally I created the sentiment on the computer, tore around it and inked it with some Hickory Smoke Distress Ink.  Tip:  The best adhesive for ensuring that all things, light or heavy stay attached to the canvas is Super Thick Slap it On.

Thanks for stopping by and I hope I have inspired you to document your blessings in your art.

Fantasy Unicorn Tag

Autumn Clark here with my kickoff post.  I have been so excited to get my hands on the Jewel unicorn stamp!  I have made several projects, but can only share one today.  Check back often for more inspiration.  This stamp was so much fun to work with because your mind instantly gets carried into the realm of fantasy and wonder when you ink it up.  Today I thought I would share a mixed media tag with you using some fun background techniques with IndigoBlu’s exquisite line of paints & new Unicorn Sparkle glitter.

I lightly mixed Park Lane and Snow White Metallic paints and scraped across a black tag with a plastic card.  I chose this technique because I really wanted my black background to show through.  While the paint was wet, I dropped a bundle of metallic string onto my tag.

Next, I mixed 1 part Unicorn Sparkle with 1 part Super Thick Slap It On together and scraped through the Stars stencil with a palette knife.  The reason I mixed it together rather than sprinkling it over the wet Slap It On was to avoid getting glitter everywhere.  If you love glitter, but hate the mess, do try this technique.

I allowed the Slap It On to air dry, while I worked on my other elements.  I stamped Jewel onto heavy card with Versafine Onyx Black ink.  I added some shading with a colored pencil.  Then I added a small amount of the same paints with some water and painted her as shown, overlapping the edges to allow for cutting.

When my tag was dry, I doodled around some of the stars with a permanent black pen.  Then I bundled Jewel with some purchased flowers, a die cut, and some gathered tulle to create my focal point.  I used pure white embossing powder over a wooden cutout for the main sentiment, and computer generated the lower text.  I mixed some tiny black beads with my Slap It On and brushed that randomly over my tag and flowers.  A few sequins and a bow completed the look.

You can see the Unicorn Sparkle reflects so many colors.  But if you rub it when mixed with Slap It On in paste form, it does not come off.  I hope you’ve been inspired today and would love to hear your comments.

Mixed Media Canvas with Paint, Stamps and Stencils

Mixed Media Canvas by

Welcome to my little creative corner. I got my mixed media on for this project and got inky and painty hands to prove it and one messy desk! Mixed media allows us to do whatever we are feeling and it is ok. Use any product, any technique..just make art. It is very liberating and IndigoBlu makes it easy with so many great paints, stencils, papers and more. Plus, I got to use up a bunch of my scrap IndigoBlu Mixed Media Papers, too!

Supplies Used:Indigoblu:  English Cottage Acrylic Paint, "Park Lane"  Grand Tour  III Stamp Set, Texture 6" x 6" Stencil, Roman Numeral 6" x 6" Stencil, Mixed Media Papers, variousSlap It On.
Other:  Tattered Angels: Baseboard in Ivory, Glimmer Mist in Viva Pink and 8" x 10" canvas, Ranger Archival Black Ink, Tombow ABT N15 black brush pen, Faber Castell PITT Pen in Magenta, White Gesso.

Start with your paper scraps, apply the Slap On and adhere to the canvas randomly. We will be covering it with gesso so do not worry about placement.

Cover the paper with white gesso without covering all the images. Keep a hint of the images.

Using a stencil, add heavy texture paste and allow to dry.

Add some of the Park Lane paint to the front over the edges and front texture portions.  Water it down a bit so that it is not too overpowering on the paper.

Sprtized the Glimmer Mist and Baseboard and spread with a paint brush. Using your pens outline some of the squares from the stenciled portion. Add a stamped image to give it its final piece.

Enjoy!  Thank you for coming by.
