Looks like the Indian Summer as predicted is merrily keeping us warm, lets hope it keep up as its only 14 weeks to Christmas! Oops did I say that out loud?

This months challenge is............ Challenge 20: A Sketch.....

Our wonderful Winner from challenge 19, Christine has made this gorgeous card for the new challenge,

 Christine Smith, Guest Designer.

Here is what she used:

I used Blazing Poppies but with no red in sight!  The backgrounds are achieved with Milled Lavender, Scattered Straw and Seedless Preserves Distress Inks, sequin waste and IndigoBlu stamps.  The poppies are coloured with same inks - the ribbon with just Seedless Preserves.  The black card background is embossed with Cuttlebug Chicken Wire embossing folder, two larger butterflies are dies and centres of flowers are sequins and beads. Sparkle is added to the flowers and butterflies with clear Wink of Stella.

Top 3 winners inpiration

Today I have for you some inspiration from our previous top 3 winners. Challenge 19 is coming to a close but the Indian Summer is set to continue if you believe the news....


First up we have Pavla who somehow got missed from the Christmas in July post, her cards are so stunning I just had to publish them for you all:

As one of the Top 3, I was asked to create an inspiration piece for the Christmas in July challenge. And what a challenge it was! Switching my mind from the tropical temperatures we are currently having in Central Europe to a Christmas mood was quite demanding.  Also, I don't have any traditional Christmas IndigoBlu stamp, so I had think outside the box a bit (a Christmas butterfly? a frozen flower? see... the heat is taking its toll...). Luckily, there are flourishes that can be used in so many different ways - to create a border for example.

 

White card: I just stamped the border in blue ink. Blue card: I used white embossing powder on a simple blue distress ink background. I cut the words on my Silhouette machine and coloured them with metallic markers. Then I glued down some rhinestones to add a bit of bling.

Materials:-

• Cardstock – white, black
• Stamps – IndigoBlu Juliet; Live, Laugh, Love; Discover Your Passion; Mr Darcy; Stylised Flowers
• Inkpads – Staz-On Jet Black
• Pan Pastels – Diarylide Yellow Tint, Hansa Yellow, Yellow Ochre, Orange, Permanent Red, Permanent Red Shade
• Self-adhesive black pearls
  
  

Instructions:-

1. Fold A4 sheet of white card in half, to create an A5 card; set aside.
2. Cut two pieces of white card – a) 16cm x 11.5cm; b) 19cm x 14.5cm. Using Staz-on Jet Black, stamp ‘Juliet’ in centre of smaller piece. Beginning with Diarylide Yellow, sponge the pan pastel over the entire card. Continue building up colour in order as given in ‘Materials.’ Using a piece of ‘scrunched-up’ paper towels, polish the card to give a more definite black.
3. Mount onto black card and set aside.
4. On the larger card with same inkpad as above, randomly stamp ‘Stylised Flower’s around lower and two side edges and the ‘Swallows’ along the top edge. Colour with pan pastels as in (2)
5. Mount onto black card.
6. Adhere to folded card blank, landscape-style. Centre the smaller card and attach.
7. Add small black pearls to suit.
8. On a scrap of card stamp ‘Live Every Moment’ and colour as at (2). Mount on to a scrap of black and attach to bottom right corner.

Inside

Inside:-

1. Cut a) white card 17.5cm x 13cm and b) 18.5cm x 14cm. Stamp sentiment ‘Let Your Spirit Fly’, stamp dragonfly in top right corner and edge with scroll, both from ‘Discover Your Passion.’ Colour as in (2) and mount onto black card.
2. Edge the larger card with the same scroll and colour as before. Mount onto black card. Attach to inside of folded card.
3. Centre the topper from (1) and attach.

Indian summer is now complete!

Last but not least we have Therese:

I started with a brusho background that i had that had bright colours
fitting an Indian theme. I stamped sentiment in versamark and embossed
in black.

I got the echinacea and prepared 2 masks. I then stamped and masked to
create depth along the top and bottom edges in black archival.
I coloured the sentiment with a white sharpie to make it pop. The
flowers I coloured with spectrum noir pencils and added wink of stella
for some sparkle.

I went around topper with faded jeans and chipped sapphire. When dry I
went round in versamark and embossed in gold sparkle.
I matted on black and then on another piece of matching brusho paper
and again black.

Next I did the border on the base card. I left a margin and masked the
card off with copy paper. I stamped flower with the help of the masks
to create depth.

I drew squiggly lines with a black pen joining all the petals. I then
coloured the negative space with spectrum pencils to match the brusho
hues.

Thank you Therese, the colour combination is stunning!

Reminder Post - Challenge 18 - Christmas in July

Top 3 Winners Inspiration Tag

The oh so talented and wonderful Mariette has created this stunning tag for you to inspire you along the way to the fast approaching end of this month's challenge! You have a few days left to enter so get creating.

Here is what Mariette had to say:

As a result of being one of the top 3 nominations of the Monochromatic challenge I have been asked if I wanted to create an inspirational piece for the current Tag challenge. I feel honored and I hope I will be able to inspire you with this tag to join this challenge!
For this tag you will start with adhering a thin and irregular layer of white gesso onto a Ranger manila tag, Once dry add Distress Strains Salty ocean and Moved lawn on to it and spray it with water. Remove some ink and water with a kitchen towel  at the spot where you want to add the flowers, and dry it with a heat tool.
Stamp the poppy twice with Archival black using the masking technique. Color in the poppies with Distress ink Picked rasberry with a water brush and add some splatters onto the background. On the bottom of the tag stamp the grass/flower border with Archival black and Distress ink Moved lawn.
The tiny butterflies are from the Blazing Poppies stamp and I just inked up only the butterfly with a black distress marker and stamped it 3 times.
To create some depth add some extra Distress Moved lawn to the bottom of the tag with a blending tool  and some Vintage photo around the rest of the edges.
The stamps used are:

• Poppy Meadow (A5 set)
• Blazing Poppies (A6 single)
